Software Update

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been well-ahead the rest of the political parties, when it comes to the effective use of such social media platforms as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, WeChat, etc., coupled with making the most of digital communication channels available online round the clock. Therefore, no other political party in Pakistan can better decipher the term ‘Software Update’ better than the tech-savvy PTI’s leadership, including Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan, and many others. Now when every next leader of PTI seems to exit the party after having some necessary software update and upgrade at the hands of the powers that be, it looks like the crème de la crème of the political party has also been fine-tuned through hardware upgrade as well. The trend suggests a new version of PTI will be soon launched in the country’s political landscape, and it will be free from terror-ridden viruses, change-inducing bugs and manufacturing glitches.

In the Name of Political Engineering

Long past are the days when the spectre of political engineering in Pakistan was restricted to making some necessary adjustments to the political landscape in favour of a specific political group or party, that too through seemingly gentle means and give-and-take bargaining. Under the guise of political engineering, however, everything is now taking place at such a speed that the whole nation seems to be in a daze and is unable to comprehend the difference between political engineering and political slaughtering. In such a crucial time when rumours are in the air about banning the PTI from participating in general elections, what message could such drastic, yet suicidal measures convey to the party’s millions of followers, comprising mainly the youth and women, is any body’s guess.
