Behind the phenomenal rise of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there lies a long history of manoeuvring, political manipulation and brinkmanship laced with a series of power struggle moves that have played a role in the rise of Modi in Indian politics, an open secret seldom discussed in the political discourse of the world’s largest democracy. However, Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, is an exception. Along with his envious good governance credentials, Kejriwal is one of those Indian politicians with the ability to call things by their proper names, leaving the legacy of opportunism and political expediency far behind.
In the budget session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly in March, a resolution regarding the Adani scam was moved in the House, which was passed after a debate. Supporting the resolution, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cited a conversation with a senior BJP leader saying that Gautam Shantilal Adani, a multinational conglomerate and the founder and chairman of Adani Group, is only manager on the front, as all the money he owns is in fact owned by none but Narendra Modi.
The Chief Minister said that Modi ji is less literate with no business acumen and it is Adani who tells him where to invest money surreptitiously. In 2014, Adani’s assets were over 50 thousand crores and in seven years it has grown to 11.50 lakh crores. Modi ji, according to Kejriwal, is robbing India with both hands and he has been the most corrupt prime minister since India’s independence.
Referring to the BJP leader, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that Modi ji has not done anything for anyone till date. If he didn’t do anything for his mother, wife, brother, relative and political guru, then how can he do so much for his friend? How can this be? In today’s world, if no one does anything for a brother, then who does it for a friend? The Hindenburg Report titled ‘How the world’s 3rd richest man is pulling the largest con in corporate history’ appeared in the media, there was chaos everywhere, and the Adani Group completely crashed.
According to Kejriwal, Modi ji is such a selfish person that if it was just a matter of friendship, he would have supported him in two minutes and said that he has nothing to do with it. However, Modi is saving Adani with calculated silence. Sometimes he orders the State Bank of India to grant Adani the money he needs. PF members have also been asked to give him money. After listening to some sources, I was also surprised that the matter was something else. On the face of it, PM Modi is such a great politician and perception is a very important thing for a politician, but he is still busy saving Adani.
The fact is that Adani is only on the front and all the money of Adani Group has been invested by Modi by himself. Adani only manages Modi ji’s money and gets 10 per cent to 20 per cent commission in return for his services. If the investigation by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is carried out, if the ED-CBI probe takes place, Adani will not drown, but Modi will. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that I asked him, “What does the Prime Minister need money for?” And he said that there is lust for money. There are many superrich people in the world who don’t need money anymore, but everyone is busy making more money. The day Adani became the second richest man in the world, it was Narendra Modi who became the second richest man in the world. Now Modi ji has a dream that he wants to become the richest man in the world. He has become the prime minister twice, but now he wants to become the world’s richest man.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that when Modi went to Sri Lanka, he put pressure on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to give Sri Lanka’s wind project to Adani. Actually he did not give this project to Adani but took it himself, as recently revealed by the Electricity Board of Sri Lanka. In the similar vein, Modi ji went to Bangladesh who signed a deal with India to buy 1500 MW of electricity for a period of 25 years. Expectedly, the project was assigned to Adani. Similarly, India has signed several defence agreements with Israel and all such deals were given to Adani.
Kejriwal said that six airports were auctioned in India two or three years ago. The government auctioned these airports for privatization so that private players could come and buy them. It was assumed that the airport would be given to the same private company that was working for the airport earlier. So finally the condition was dropped on the spot that no airport operating experience was required and all six airports were awarded to Adani in November 2021, a one and half year before 2023. Today, within one and a half years, 30% of the airport business in the country belongs to Adani, which is not a matter of surprise. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that companies are being taken away from their owners at gunpoint by using ED-CBI. On 10 October 2018, an income tax raid was conducted at Krishnapatnam Port and on 6 April 2020, Adani bought the entire port.
In spite of the Modi government supporting the TV channels and the country’s large group of newspapers, the present BJP government is constantly being attacked these days and the Modi government is completely on the back foot. The Adani Group’s corruption report published by Hindenburg has caused a huge financial loss to the Adani Group and Adani has slipped from the second richest person in the world to the twenty-first place.
The damage done to the Adani Group is over, but the reputation of the Indian government is at stake even among its own supporters. The government is doing everything possible to save Adani, but Hindenburg’s record says that the business tycoon against whom the company issued a defamation report has never stood up again. The collapse will not only sink Adani but also the credibility of trusted government institutions like the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and the State Bank of India (SBI). It is said about the LIC that the company has never been in loss till date. But for the first time, LIC is facing a loss by investing eight thousand crores in Adani Group. LIC, SBI, Punjab National Bank and other banks whose money is invested in Adani group and the share of this group continues to fall in the same way. Not only are the investigative agencies silent spectators on Adani’s corruption, but also the electronic media.
The BJP was already feeling uncomfortable with Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. The way Rahul Gandhi highlighted the climate of hatred in the country made it difficult for the BJP to deal with the emerging crisis. At the same time, by bringing up the topic of unemployment and inflation, the Congress has created panic in the BJP. The BBC documentary came out during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. The documentary exposed Prime Minister Modi’s fascist face in India and outside India. The BBC documentary has proved that the Prime Minister is a biased person who is not fit to rule the country. However, Modi supporters say that Prime Minister Modi has got a clean chit from the Supreme Court for the 2002 Gujarat riot case. Therefore, anything further in this matter is pointless.
Not only Modi and Amit Shah, but the entire BJP has lost its standing after the scandal of Adani came to light. To save his politics, Modi will need to take some actions against Adani, but whether Adani is arrested or not, he will definitely be given a way to escape to a foreign country to spend the rest of his life there.
