What else could have made 2021 better! Sajal Aly, the Pakistani TV-sensation was recently honoured with the International Icon Award in Dubai by the Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards (DIAFA) for her impressive contributions to TV and films. Aly has undoubtedly proved herself worthy with her performances nationally and internationally.

The starlet even starred alongside (late) Sridevi Kapoor as her daughter in the film 'MOM' with Adnan Siddiqui in an Indian film marking her presence and has now progressed towards Hollywood by starring in Jemima Goldsmith`s upcoming romantic-comedy ‘What`s Love Got To Do With It?’ as revealed by the BBC journalist Haroon Rashid. The news was later confirmed by her manager Hamid Hussain and by Goldsmith`s tweet.

Jemima Goldsmith is a British TV, film and documentary producer – also known as the former wife of Prime Minister Imran Khan. She will be collaborating with Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, popularly known for his films such as 'Mr. India' and 'Dil Se'.

The film will have some of the biggest names from Hollywood and the Indian industry such as Lily James (Baby Driver), Shazad Latif (Star Trek – Discovery), Emma Thompson (Beauty and the Beast) and Shabana Azmi (Khali Khuhi). The film is set in London and South Asia, exploring cross-cultural conflicts of love and marriage.

Goldsmith`s work includes her 2019 Emmy nominated – 'The Case Against Adnan Syed' and 2018 drama 'The Clinton Affair', with producer credits for the 'American Crime Story'. Her recent collaboration with Shehkar Kapur also marks Kapur's directorial return since his last Oscar–winning production in 2007 'Elizabeth – The Golden Age'.

Kapur, in an interview told Variety in November that ‘It’s a story of identities, it’s about cultural clashes and it’s a comedy, but it’s about hiding behind an identity and how identities can become tribal, and how tribalism can lead to clashes and fundamentalism. It’s a rom-com, but based on the fundamental idea of people adopting identities out of fear of marginalization.’

Following the news of Aly's casting, she was applauded on social media platform by many of her fellow actors such as Mahira Khan, Humayun Saeed, Zara Noor Abbas, Anoushay Ashraf and many others who congratulated on her Hollywood debut. A fellow co-star Yasir Husaain said, ‘Sajal you are a very good actress. Shabana Ji will say the same thing very soon’, quoting the veteran Indian actor Shabana Azmi, who will be a part of this film.

Based on speculations, the story ‘What's Love Got To Do With It’ is written and inspired by the life of Jemima and Imran Khan, although, no proper explanation is given by Goldsmith in this regard.
